Part of Germany's long-running fairy tale series issued under the collector program administered by the Federal Finance Ministry, this copper-nickel version was struck alongside a bimetallic edition featuring the same design — the bimetallic carrying a polymer ring that made it the first German coin of that type. The copper-nickel issue was sold exclusively through the Bundesbank and select coin dealers rather than circulated, which accounts for the near-universal mint state of surviving examples.
The polymer-ring bimetallic of this same issue caused enough production complications at the minting facilities that delivery timelines slipped into mid-year.
