Issued as part of Italy's ongoing series honoring figures from art, architecture, and science, this coin marks the 500th anniversary of Palladio's birth — he was born in Padua in 1508. Palladio's influence on Western architecture was transmitted largely through his 1570 treatise I Quattro Libri dell'Architettura, which shaped everything from English country houses to the United States Capitol.
