正面描述 A relief map of the European Union as constituted in 2003 occupies the left and central portion of the field, rendered with fine detail against a mirror-polished background. A partial circle of twelve stars from the European flag frames the right side of the design, with the denomination '10 EURO' prominently displayed to their left in large numerals. The date '2003' appears in the lower portion of the field among the stars. The trilingual legend 'BELGIEN - BELGIQUE - BELGIE' runs along the upper left rim. Engraver's initials and mint marks are visible within the field.

附加信息

Issued to mark the centenary of Georges Simenon's birth, this coin commemorates one of the most prolific serious novelists of the twentieth century — a Belgian who spent much of his life insisting he wasn't one. Simenon published over 200 novels under his own name, including 75 Maigret titles, and famously claimed to write each in a concentrated burst of nine to eleven days, after which he would submit himself to a medical check-up.

He was born in Liège in 1903 and died in Lausanne in 1989, having never quite reconciled himself to the literary establishment that alternately celebrated and dismissed him.
