Belgium's 2007 euro cent issues mark the transition to the updated eurozone map design, which incorporated the ten new member states that had joined since the original 2002 launch — a change mandated across all eurozone mints simultaneously. Albert II's first portrait, by sculptor Jan Alfons Lauwers, had already been on Belgian euro coinage since 1999; this piece pairs that unchanged effigy with the revised reverse, creating a brief transitional combination that collectors specifically target within the Albert II series.
