San Marino's euro coinage is produced under a monetary agreement with the European Union — the republic has no central bank and issues coins exclusively through an arrangement that sets strict annual mintage ceilings. The 2008 map revision, which updated the reverse to include Malta and Cyprus following their 2007 eurozone entry, applied uniformly across all participating microstates and EU members at the same time.
San Marino's annual authorized mintage is among the smallest of any euro-issuing territory, which means a significant proportion of surviving examples come from mint sets rather than circulation.
