Obverse description The obverse features a portrait bust of Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, the celebrated Spanish author of Don Quixote, depicted in period costume with beard and ruffled collar, positioned to the right of centre within a decorative arc. To the left of the bust, a quill pen is rendered in low relief, referencing Cervantes's literary legacy, with his name inscribed in italic script. The legend ESPAÑA appears in the upper left field, identifying the issuing nation, while the Madrid mint mark (crowned M) and the year of issue are placed in the lower left field. Twelve stars arc around the rim, referencing European unity, and the entire design is executed in a refined engraving style by Begoña Castellanos García.
