Beschrijving voorzijde View of the five most celebrated towers of Hamburg's historic skyline depicted in sequence from left to right: the Gustav Adolf Church, St. Catherine's Church, the Town Hall Tower, St. Nicholas Church, and St. Michaelis Church. In the foreground, a flag bearing the Hamburg city coat of arms waves prominently. The Latin legend HAMBURGUM CIV HANSEAT arcs around the design, with the date 1958 incorporated into the inscription.

Aanvullende informatie

The "Aureus Magnus" series was produced by the Hamburg firm of Bade & Wittmer as a private bullion restrike program, not an official federal issue — hence the X# classification rather than a KM number. These were sold directly to collectors and investors during the late 1950s West German economic recovery, when private gold ownership was legal but official gold coinage had not yet been reestablished by the Bundesbank.

The Hamburg connection is deliberate: the city had operated one of Europe's most respected commercial minting traditions for centuries, and the Aureus Magnus pieces traded heavily on that civic prestige.
