Liberia leaned heavily on novelty licensing throughout the 1990s, issuing dozens of pop-culture themed silver coins aimed squarely at collector and fan markets rather than circulation. This piece is part of that run, produced under a licensing arrangement with Paramount for Star Trek imagery. The coins were struck by private minting contractors and distributed almost exclusively through dealers and television shopping channels — Liberia itself had no meaningful domestic coin market for pieces of this type.
