Additional information

Part of a broader series issued by several Pacific nations in the early 2010s featuring UNESCO World Heritage Sites, this miniature gold piece was produced under license arrangements common to the bullion novelty trade — where the issuing authority is nominal and the real driver is a European mint seeking global distribution channels. Fiji's Reserve Bank lent its authority to dozens of such pieces during this period.

The Torre de Belém was completed around 1521 and served variously as fortress, lighthouse, and political prison before becoming a symbol of the Manueline architectural style.
