Additional information

The Baby Kangaroo series was produced by the Perth Mint under arrangement with Pacific island nations whose own minting infrastructure is nonexistent — Solomon Islands lending its issuing authority to what is functionally an Australian commercial product. At 0.5 grams, these fractional gold pieces occupy the smallest viable size for legal tender coinage, a format driven entirely by retail collector demand for low entry-point gold rather than any monetary need of the issuing state.
