The "Single 9 Pond" refers to one of the most famous minting errors in South African history: an 1898 Kruger Pond on which a single "9" was punched over an earlier date, producing a coin of which only a handful of confirmed examples are known. The original error piece has sold at auction for figures well into the millions of rands. This Solomon Islands issue commemorates that rarity — a modern bullion tribute to an accidental classic.
