Additional information

A 45mm diameter with a 0.31g gold content means the planchet is extraordinarily thin — this is a foil-struck or "gold foil" format, a production method pioneered by the Austrian Mint in which fine gold is rolled and bonded to a base, then struck at large diameter. The Rio de Janeiro specification points to one of the ongoing Commonwealth monarch series issued through the Solomon Islands' external licensing arrangements, a prolific category of legal-tender novelty coinage with no domestic circulation whatsoever.

Charles III formally acceded on 8 September 2022 following the death of Elizabeth II at Balmoral.
