Obverse description The German Federal Eagle (Bundesadler) is depicted in high relief at the centre of the field, facing right with wings spread and talons clasping a heraldic cross. The eagle's finely detailed plumage and bold posture reflect the official German state emblem. The circular legend reads 'BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND' along the upper arc and '10 DEUTSCHE MARK' along the lower arc. The date '1992' appears to the lower left of the eagle, flanked by the mint mark 'D' to the lower right.

Reverse description The reverse features a finely modelled right-facing bust of Alexander von Humboldt, the celebrated Prussian naturalist and first Chancellor of the Order Pour le Mérite for Sciences and Arts, occupying the left portion of the field. To the right, a detailed rendering of the actual Pour le Mérite decoration — a blue-enamelled cross surmounted by a royal crown and suspended from a ribbon clip — is depicted in artistic relief. The circular legend reads 'ORDEN POUR LE MÉRITE' along the upper left arc and 'FÜR WISSENSCHAFTEN UND KÜNSTE' along the upper right arc, with 'A. V. HUMBOLDT' and '1. KANZLER DES ORDENS' inscribed in the inner field, and the commemorative dates '1842-1992' appearing along the lower right.
