The Beatrix nickel 10 cent was introduced in 1982 following her coronation on April 30, 1980 — a ceremony famously disrupted by widespread rioting in Amsterdam, where protesters objecting to the housing crisis clashed violently with police and military units while the investiture proceeded. The coin's nearly two-decade run ended with the Netherlands' adoption of euro coinage in 2002, making the entire Beatrix guilder series among the shorter-lived modern Dutch coinage programs.
