The Banco Central de la República Dominicana was established in 1947, and its early note issues were produced almost exclusively by the American Bank Note Company. This 10 Centavos Oro falls near the end of the Trujillo dictatorship — Rafael Trujillo was assassinated in May 1961 — making it one of the last low-denomination issues to circulate under the political machinery his regime had built around the central bank since its founding.
The "Oro" designation was a holdover from an earlier monetary convention, not a reflection of any gold backing by this date.
