Obverse description The obverse features fourteen Chinese characters arranged in two concentric zones separated by a beaded inner circle. Within the inner circle, six large characters read '中華民國元年' (Year 1 of the Republic of China), arranged around the central field. The outer legend, running clockwise between the beaded circle and the toothed border, reads '新疆通用當紅錢十文' (Each piece worth 10 Cash, for general use in Sinkiang). The design is executed in bold raised relief with a uniform, unadorned field and a continuous dentilated rim encircling the entire face.
