The outer legend, running clockwise between the beaded circle and the toothed border, reads '新疆通用當紅錢十文' (Each piece worth 10 Cash, for general use in Sinkiang). The design is executed in bold raised relief with a uniform, unadorned field and a continuous dentilated rim encircling the entire face.
