Issued by the Szechuan Provincial Government Military in the chaotic transition following the Wuchang Uprising of October 1911, this piece reflects the patchwork monetary authority that briefly characterized the new republic's western provinces. Szechuan had been a flashpoint — the Railway Protection Movement there directly triggered the revolution — and the provincial military government moved quickly to assert fiscal control before central authority could be established from Nanjing or Beijing.
The 1912–1913 window was short, and civilian central mint oversight reasserted itself soon after.
