Iridium is one of the densest and most corrosion-resistant elements on earth, and almost entirely a byproduct of platinum refining — which makes producing a coin from it a logistical exercise as much as a numismatic one. Rwanda's National Bank issued this piece as part of a broader African wildlife bullion program that leaned heavily on the novelty of exotic platinum-group metals to attract collector attention in the mid-2010s.
At 1.24 grams, the iridium content here is near-trivial by bullion standards, making this functionally a collector's curiosity rather than a store of value.
