The Bukhara Soviet People's Republic was a short-lived political entity created in 1920 after the Red Army overthrew the Emirate of Bukhara — one of Central Asia's oldest surviving monarchies — in a matter of days. The new government issued its own currency as an assertion of administrative independence from Moscow, though that independence was largely nominal from the start.

This 10,000 rouble denomination reflects the extreme monetary conditions of the period. The BSNR was absorbed into the Soviet system by 1924, and its paper issues were superseded and largely destroyed or discarded. Survivors are genuinely uncommon, particularly in anything above heavily circulated condition.
