Miklós Ybl (1814–1891) was the dominant figure in Hungarian historicist architecture, responsible for the Hungarian State Opera House and the radical expansion of the Royal Palace in Budapest — work so tied to the Austro-Hungarian cultural program that his commissions came largely through imperial patronage.
