Nāṣer al-Dīn Shāh's reign lasted nearly fifty years — the longest of any Qajar monarch — and his treasury issued tuman coins across multiple decades, but the series is riddled with die inconsistencies and unofficial restrike activity that has complicated attribution ever since. KM#917 was produced at Tehran during a period when the Iranian monetary system was under increasing pressure from Russian and British commercial interests, both empires actively maneuvering to control Persian trade concessions.
