Reverse description A snow leopard (irbis) rendered in fine detail stands in full profile facing right, posed atop a rocky outcrop occupying the central and lower field of the coin. The animal's musculature and spotted coat are depicted with naturalistic precision against a polished proof-like background. The bilingual legend 'КҮМІС БАРЫС / SILVER IRBIS' arcs across the upper field in stylized lettering. The year of issue appears to the left in the field, while the fineness and weight designations 'Ag 999,9' and '1 oz' are inscribed along the lower right periphery.

Additional information

Kazakhstan's National Bank launched the Irbis (snow leopard) bullion series as part of a broader push to establish the tenge as a vehicle for precious metals investment — a policy ambition shared by several post-Soviet republics attempting to develop domestic capital markets in the 2000s. The 1 Tenge face value is purely nominal; these pieces never circulated and were never intended to.

The KM#161 reference covers the full 2009–2022 run with relatively consistent specifications, though mintage figures for individual years vary and are not always transparently reported by the issuing authority.
