| Beschrijving voorzijde | Left-facing draped bust of Liberty in the neoclassical style, her hair elegantly swept back and secured by a fillet inscribed LIBERTY. Surrounding the effigy is a circular legend composed of alternating five-pointed stars and letters spelling out the coin's metallic composition and weight specifications: 6 G. 3 S. 7 C. 7 GRAMS. The date 1879 appears prominently in the lower field beneath the bust. The design, engraved by George T. Morgan, reflects the influence of the Flowing Hair Liberty type proposed for international coinage compatibility. |
