Obverse description Bare-headed, draped bust of Carl XIV Johan facing right, rendered in a neoclassical style with finely engraved curly hair. The circumferential legend reads CARL XIV JOHAN . NORGES SVER. G: OG V: KONGE, identifying the king as ruler of Norway, Sweden, Goths and Wends. The engraver's initial 'M.' appears below the truncation, attributing the die to Mathias Malling. The portrait fills the central field with a broad, flat rim framing the legend.
