Obverse description The Doge Giovanni Dolfin depicted in full figure, kneeling to the left in ceremonial robes, holding an upright banner or gonfalon in his right hand. The figure is rendered in the stylized Gothic manner characteristic of Venetian medieval coinage. A beaded inner border frames the central device, with the circular legend distributed around the periphery of the flan. The hammered flan exhibits the typical irregular edge of mid-14th-century Venetian small silver coinage.
