Obverse description Central field occupied by a shield bearing the Norwegian lion rampant, the arms of the Kingdom of Norway. The date 1530 appears above the shield within an inner beaded circle. The circumferential Latin legend, rendered in late medieval uncial letterforms, reads FREDRIC DEI GRA REX NORVEG, identifying the issuer as Frederik I, by the grace of God King of Norway. The design is characteristic of early sixteenth-century Scandinavian hammered coinage, with an irregular flan and slightly uneven strike typical of the period.
