Beschrijving keerzijde A shield superimposed at the centre of a cross, the arms of which extend toward the inner beaded circle. An outer beaded ring follows the coin's irregular edge, with the circumferential legend placed between the two concentric beaded borders. The composition reflects the heraldic and ecclesiastical conventions typical of late medieval Norwegian church coinage.

Aanvullende informatie

Erik Valkendorf held the archbishopric of Nidaros from 1510 until his forced exile in 1522, driven out by Christian II after refusing to support the king's aggressive ecclesiastical policies. He died in Rome in 1522, never having returned to Norway. The coinage issued under his authority belongs entirely to that window of conflict — a prelate powerful enough to strike his own silver, ultimately undone by the same crown that tolerated it.
