Erik Valkendorf served as Archbishop of Nidaros from 1510 until his forced exile in 1522, when Christian II — having grown hostile to the church's political influence in Norway — effectively expelled him from the country. Valkendorf died in Rome the following year while seeking papal intervention, never returning to Trondheim. His coinage therefore has a hard terminal date not set by a mint decision but by a political rupture that ended his tenure entirely.
