Obverse description Central field displays the Norwegian royal coat of arms: a crowned shield bearing a rampant lion facing left and holding a battleaxe, set against a horizontally lined field. The shield is surmounted by a royal crown with cross finial. The royal cypher "CL XIV" appears to the left of the shield and "JOH." to the right, both in raised relief against the plain copper field, together forming the abbreviated name and regnal numeral of King Carl XIV Johan of Norway.
