Obverse description Central field bearing the Shi'ite kalima (profession of faith) rendered in bold naskh or thuluth calligraphy, enclosed within a circular border. The date 902 AH (an erroneous rendering of 920 AH) appears within the inscription, a highly atypical placement for Safavid coinage, where dates are conventionally positioned alongside the mint name and ruler's name. The legends are deeply struck on an irregular flan, with the Arabic script filling the central medallion in a dense, stacked arrangement characteristic of early Safavid hammered issues.
