The Huguenin mint mark appears at the bottom of the inner field. The outer circular legend, running around the full periphery, reads VALORE FR.10 FINO AL 31.12.1998 at the top and PRESSO LA BANCA DELLO STATO at the base, with SECONDO CENTENARIO DELL'INDIPENDENZA completing the commemorative inscription along the sides. The Ticino scudo is a cantonal bullion and collector issue, reviving a unit of account that had practical currency in the region during the years of Napoleonic reorganization — the Helvetic Republic briefly standardized the scudo across its Italian-speaking territories before the Confederation restored cantonal autonomy in 1803. Banca dello Stato del Cantone Ticino has issued this denomination periodically as a regional identity piece rather than circulating currency.
