Obverse description Central field displays the arms of Riga: a crowned gateway or city gate motif with flanking towers, rendered in the heraldic style typical of Livonian civic coinage of the mid-sixteenth century. The shield is surmounted by a crown and the design is contained within a beaded inner circle. The date numerals appear integrated into the field or legend area. The overall strike is characteristic of hammered billon coinage, with some weakness and irregular flan edges.

Reverse description Central field features the crossed keys of St. Peter, the civic emblem of Riga, displayed in saltire with the bows uppermost, surrounded by a beaded inner circle. Below the keys, a small orb or pellet device is visible. The peripheral legend in Latin runs clockwise around the inner circle, separated from the keys motif by the beaded border. The hammered strike results in characteristic uneven surfaces and a slightly irregular coin outline consistent with mid-sixteenth-century Livonian small silver production.
