Obverse description Central shield bearing three horizontal bars with a distinctively convex or 'bumpy' top edge, a design feature specific to this variety. The shield is rendered in a simple heraldic style typical of hammered billon coinage of the period. The central device is surrounded by a beaded inner circle. A Latin legend in Gothic lettering encircles the entire design within the outer border.
