| Reverse description | Central device consists of two crossed keys, the emblem of the city of Riga, displayed in saltire within a plain inner circle. The keys are depicted with simple bow and bit forms typical of medieval ecclesiastical heraldry as used on Livonian coinage. A continuous Latin legend surrounds the central device, separated from it by a linear or beaded border, with the last two digits of the date (47) incorporated into the legend. The overall style reflects the characteristic hammered technique and Gothic lettering conventions of mid-sixteenth-century Riga mint production. |
