Beschrijving voorzijde Within a beaded inner circle, a heraldic shield bearing a branch with trefoil flowers, divided centrally by a vertical stem. The shield is set within a plain field, enclosed by a circular legend in Latin Gothic lettering. The overall design is characteristic of late-medieval Baltic ecclesiastical coinage, struck on a roughly-shaped flan with irregular edges.

Aanvullende informatie

Hermann II Wesel held the see of Dorpat during the final, fractious decades of the Livonian Confederation, a period when the Bishop's temporal authority was being steadily eroded by the surrounding powers — the Livonian Order, Riga, and an increasingly aggressive Muscovy. This schilling was struck just eight years before Ivan the Terrible's forces overran Dorpat in 1558, ending the bishopric entirely. Coins from the last episcopal issues of Dorpat are chronologically compressed into a very short window, which the Haljak typology reflects in its tight numbering of late varieties.

The "key up" distinction from the related type is a die-position variant tracked specifically in Haljak II, not a separate emission.
