| Beschrijving voorzijde | The obverse bears the Islamic kalima in bold Arabic calligraphy occupying the central field, reading the declaration of faith ('There is no god but Allah, Muhammad is the messenger of Allah'), with the names of the four Rightly Guided Caliphs (Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, Ali) inscribed below. The legends are rendered in a flowing Naskh script characteristic of Mughal coinage, surrounded by a decorative floral or dotted border typical of the Surat mint's hammered silver rupees. The flan is slightly irregular and shows the characteristic broad, thin fabric of Mughal rupees of this period. |
