Obverse description Central field occupied by the emperor's name and title 'Shah Jahan Ghazi' inscribed in bold Nasta'liq calligraphy within a dotted square cartouche. Floral and foliate decorative motifs fill the areas surrounding the central square in the outer field. The inscription is rendered in a confident, flowing hand characteristic of Mughal imperial coinage of the mid-seventeenth century. A beaded inner border frames the entire design.

Reverse description The Kalima (Islamic declaration of faith) inscribed in bold Nasta'liq calligraphy across the central field, with the AH regnal year positioned in the lower portion of the die. Floral sprays and foliate ornaments fill the surrounding field. A beaded border encircles the design at the periphery. The legends are deeply struck and characteristic of the Akbarabad (Agra) mint production under Shah Jahan.
