Obverse description Hammered silver flan bearing the kalima (Islamic declaration of faith) in bold Persian nasta'liq script arranged across the central field, divided by two horizontal raised lines creating three registers. The uppermost register contains the opening portion of the legend, the broad central band carries the main royal inscription naming the emperor Muhammad Shah, and the lower register contains additional regnal text. The script is deeply struck with characteristic Mughal calligraphic style, the letters bold and flowing against the flat, slightly irregular field typical of hand-struck Mughal rupees.
