| Beschrijving voorzijde | The obverse field is entirely occupied by a two-line Persian couplet in elegant Nasta'liq calligraphy, deeply struck across the flan. The upper hemistich reads 'By the command of Shah Jahangir' and the lower 'Gold became the possessor of a hundred adornments,' a poetic inscription honouring the emperor. The legends are disposed in sweeping curved bands filling the circular flan to its edges, characteristic of Mughal hammered coinage. Floral rosette ornaments and small decorative devices are interspersed between the lines of text in the field. The lettering is bold and deeply incused with the refined calligraphic style associated with Jahangir's finest silver issues. |
