正面描述 The field is entirely occupied by the emperor's regnal titles and name inscribed in elegant Nasta'liq calligraphy across three horizontal bands, separated by raised linear borders. The upper band contains the honorific titles, the central band bears the name 'Aurangzeb Alamgir', and the lower band carries the Hijri date 1072 AH. Floral rosette ornaments and pellet groupings are scattered throughout the field as decorative elements typical of Mughal hammered coinage. The flan is slightly irregular, consistent with hand-struck production of the period.

附加信息

Aurangzeb seized the Mughal throne in 1658 after imprisoning his father Shah Jahan and executing three of his brothers, and his early coinage reflects a ruler actively consolidating legitimacy through Islamic orthodoxy. Ahmadnagar, by 1662, had been a Mughal administrative center for decades — the Nizam Shahi sultanate there had been extinguished by Shah Jahan in 1636 — making this a mint operating well within established imperial territory rather than a frontier issue.

KM#297.1 distinguishes this type by mint and regnal year combination. Aurangzeb would later suppress music, ban figural art, and reinstate the jizya tax on non-Muslims — policies that define his reign more than any coin does.
