Transnistria — formally the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic — remains unrecognized by any UN member state, yet its Republican Bank has issued collector coins continuously since the early 2000s. These roubles circulate legally within the breakaway territory, which has maintained de facto independence from Moldova since a brief armed conflict in 1992, backed throughout by Russian military presence in the form of the Operational Group of Russian Forces stationed there.
