Opmerkingen

Batareynaya was one of dozens of isolated military and prisoner camps that issued their own scrip during the Russian Civil War period, when central monetary authority had effectively collapsed and any unit, camp, or garrison too remote to receive regular currency supply improvised its own. These camp issues were produced under field conditions, often by hand or on whatever printing equipment was locally available, and their circulation was strictly internal — redeemable only within the issuing facility and worthless beyond its perimeter.

Documentation on Batareynaya specifically is thin. Survivors of such scrip are rare simply because the issuing authorities rarely outlasted the chaos that created them.
