Obverse description The obverse bears a multi-line calligraphic legend in ornate Nastaliq script, arranged across the field in three registers and enclosed within a decorative foliate border of scrolling arabesques. The central inscription reads 'al-Sultan ibn al-Sultan Fath Ali Shah Qajar', proclaiming the royal title and dynastic name of the reigning monarch. The legend is rendered in bold, deeply struck strokes characteristic of Qajar hammered silver coinage. An inner beaded or dotted border frames the calligraphic composition, while the outer rim displays a continuous dotted border. The overall design reflects the refined Persian calligraphic tradition employed on early nineteenth-century Qajar currency.
