Beschrijving keerzijde Central field bearing a multi-line Nasta'liq calligraphic inscription identifying the mint and regnal year, arranged in horizontal registers within an oval cartouche formed by elegant floral scrollwork and arabesque ornaments. Scattered pellets (raised dots) punctuate the field between the decorative elements, a hallmark of Qajar die engraving. An outer border of large raised beads defines the periphery, following the coin's irregular, hand-struck edge. The lower register displays the AH date 1222 in Eastern Arabic numerals. The composition reads 'Zarb Dar al-Marz Rasht 1222', denoting a striking at the frontier mint of Rasht.

Aanvullende informatie

Fath Ali Shah's silver coinage was struck across a sprawling network of provincial mints, each with its own engravers, dies, and tolerances — which is precisely why Rasht pieces diverge so noticeably from Tehran or Tabriz output in style and execution. Rasht, sitting on the Caspian littoral near Gilan province, was commercially significant due to the silk trade and proximity to Russian markets, making its mint output functionally important rather than ceremonial.

The years of this issue bracket the Treaty of Gulistan negotiations, which concluded in 1813 and ceded significant Iranian territory to Russia following the First Russo-Persian War.
