Obverse description Central field features a stylized tughra — a calligraphic monogram in the Ottoman tradition — incorporating the Arabic inscription of the Arab Republic of Egypt within its elaborate interlocking script. To the right of the tughra, the numeral 1 is rendered in Eastern Arabic numerals above the denomination قرش (Qirsh) in Arabic script. The dual dates AH 1412 and AD 1991 are inscribed in Arabic numerals along the upper arc of the field. The entire design is contained within a beaded border.
