Obverse description The obverse features the denomination 'One Pound' inscribed in Arabic script at the centre of the field, flanked on either side by the Hijri date 1401 and the Gregorian date 1981. The legend 'Arab Republic of Egypt' curves along the upper periphery in Arabic script. A decorative arabesque ornamental device appears in the lower portion of the field. A fine beaded border encircles the entire design.
