Obverse description Green note with fine guilloche underprint across the centre. The bank title 'The Royal Bank of Scotland plc' runs along the top, with the denomination '£1' at upper right and lower left corners. A large circular watermark window occupies the left portion, flanked by the serial number in two positions. At centre, the value 'ONE POUND STERLING' is printed in large intaglio lettering above the date and promise text. To the right, an intricate vignette of the Royal Bank of Scotland arms — a shield supported by a unicorn and a stag beneath the motto 'FIRM' — is rendered in fine line engraving. The Chief Executive's signature appears below the central text.
