Opmerkingen

The North of Scotland Bank was one of the smaller Scottish chartered banks — headquartered in Aberdeen, it operated a tight regional network across the northeast and Highlands. By the time this series was issued, De La Rue had long been the bank's printer of choice, and the relationship shows in the consistency of the production across the 1938–1949 date range.

Scottish banks retained the right of independent note issue under separate legislation from English banking law, a position that made each issuer responsible for maintaining its own reserve backing. The North of Scotland was absorbed into Clydesdale Bank in 1950, ending its independent issue history almost immediately after this series closed.
