| Obverse description | The obverse is printed in dark green intaglio on white cotton paper. At the upper left, a finely engraved vignette set within an ornate cartouche presents the seated allegorical figure of Britannia, holding a spear and sheaf of wheat, surrounded by elaborate scrollwork. The centre carries the cursive promise-to-pay text above the large denomination words "One Pound" within a guilloche underprint, while a numeral "1" vignette enclosed in a further guilloche medallion occupies the right panel. The serial number appears twice in red, and the Chief Cashier's signature is printed at lower right above the issuing authority line. |
